Hello friends,
Creativity is the second powerful pillar of our virtual retreat center, The Nest—a steady beam holding this space alongside Stillness and Connection.
It’s more than making art—it’s the spark that lights up everyday life and a way of coming home to yourself. It’s the quiet joy of making something with your hands, the thrill of exploring an idea just because it calls to you, and the gentle reminder that there’s no “right way” to be creative.
Here, creativity is play, curiosity, and expression all woven together. It might look like painting, journaling, crafting, baking, arranging flowers, or simply making space for new ideas to bloom. Whether you pick up a paintbrush, cut words from a magazine to form a poem, or look at the world with fresh eyes, you’re reconnecting with that part of yourself that loves to imagine.
My Creative Thread
I see creativity as my superpower. One of my favorite ways to express it is through slow stitching. I begin with a photograph—something that catches my heart—and then duplicate it in fabric and thread. It’s a quiet, meditative process, one that teaches patience and presence, stitch by stitch.
Creativity runs in my family—my grandma was a lifelong maker who inspired me to notice beauty, experiment with materials, and make time for hands-on expression. Slow stitching feels like a continuation of that lineage, a way to honor her spirit while creating something uniquely my own.
I’ve shared before in my newsletters how slow stitching can be a beautiful form of creative self-care—an invitation to slow down, notice texture and color, and connect more deeply with yourself. (You can find those newsletter posts attached for a deeper dive into this practice.)
At my in-person Wild Threads gathering on Vancouver Island, we shared that experience together—a day filled with delicious food, laughter, and the soothing rhythm of needle and thread. It’s the same sense of calm and connection that I hope you’ll find here—virtually, inside The Nest.
At its heart, creativity is a form of self-care—a gentle invitation to explore, play, and rediscover joy in your own way. And it doesn’t have to take hours. Even the smallest spark can shift your day.
Here are two to try right now:
Found Poem – Flip through a magazine, cut out words or phrases that speak to you, and arrange them into a short poem. Don’t overthink it—just let the words find you.
Color Hunt – Look around and choose three colors you see in your space. Sketch, collage, or arrange something using only those colors.
How Creativity Benefits You:
Brings a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment
Sparks inspiration and ignites passion
Provides a therapeutic outlet to explore and express yourself
You’ll find more inspiration, prompts, and gentle guidance for your creative journey inside The Nest. Whether you join a Kitchen Table gathering, try a project from our creative library (currently being created), or simply browse for sparks of inspiration, there’s always something to awaken your creative spirit.
Up next, we’ll gather around our final pillar: Connection—where the threads of stillness and creativity come together to weave meaningful relationships.
Thank you.
